World Book Day

Awhile back, I took this photo of the Free Books shelf that resides behind the Sierra Madre Public Library.  It's a cool little spot.

As it turns out, today is World Book Day.  Although I'm very excited, because I love books, and love that they get their very own World Day, I wasn't even aware of it until this morning.  That's when I saw it on the earlier-published-than-mine post on Pasadena Daily Photo.  (Kudos to Petrea, for getting the scoop on this important day!)

As an aside, I had no real reason for taking the photo when I did, but that's the beauty of blogging.  You just never know when you might need a certain photo.  This may be why the recipe for my average walk includes one-part walking to three-parts stopping-to-take-a-photo.

There you have it.  World Book Day.  Celebrate.  Relax.  Read a book!

  2. I get so excited when I see a pile of free books like that. It takes all my self control not to take them home. I never get round to reading them nowadays, as it's too nice outdoors in this climate.

I'm intrigued by the books in the stairwell that people appear to have been taking by mistake. What are they and why are they there?

    1. As I recall, the stairwell area is where people can drop off books that they want to give away. I was going to put that in the post, but wasn't too sure. And I thought, "Well, no one will even notice that"!! Haha! I underestimate my brilliant readers! :) Anywho, I think people put them there, and the library goes through them and decides which to shelve, which to put in the Best Used Books Sale, and which to put on the free shelf in the back!

  4. I wrote about the LATimes Festival of Books. But I doubt there were any signs with FREE on them at the event.

  5. I didn't know it was world book day either. I should have celebrated with a trip to the library.
