Keep Looking for the Helpers

I have used this quote before, but I feel like it bears repeating:

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of "disaster," I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world."
~~Fred Rogers

We have many helpers in our society.  Sierra Madre is lucky to have, in addition to our paid Community Workers (police, fire, etc.), many volunteer firemen. Those who help, just for the sake of helping.

Last night I read that yesterday, as bombs exploded in Boston, many people fought their "flight" instinct, and ran back to help others.  Those helpers are always there.  Sometimes we have to look around a bit, but they are definitely there.  I find it very comforting to know that we are very seldom truly alone.

  1. This quote is all over Facebook. It's a good one.

  2. I think it's important to remember that most people are basically good.

  3. Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I love this quote. It's definitely been around FaceBook a lot this week, but people are basically good, and sometimes it takes a great quote from someone like Mr. Rogers to give us that reminder that, all too often lately, we can really use.

  4. "leave no man behind" it's a military thing but I also thinks it's encoded in the DNA

Comments are welcomed and most appreciated. When I win a million-dollar lottery, I will think of you first!
