Sierra Madre Music

Opened last September, Sierra Madre Music offers lessons in "ukulele, flute, guitar, piano, voice, drums, violin, sax, bass, and more..."  They even offer, in some cases, group lessons, and students can participate in twice-yearly recitals.   In addition, they sell high-end classical guitars, sheet music, music stands, and other merchandise.

For some interesting background on the well-renowned husband and wife owners, Jessica Pierce and Almer Imamovic, please see this article in the Pasadena Star News.

Now, to decide...  Is it time to pursue my lifelong dream of playing the flute?  Does it matter that I've never been able to master sight reading??  We'll have to see!

  2. Go for it, Adele. I bet the biggest challenge would be finding the time to fit in the pursuit of a new interest :).

    1. Ha! I think you're right! I did try clarinet in 4th grade, but I think flute is prettier.

  4. Yes, go for it! (You could also try the ukulele and form a trio with your family:) I bet you'd be brilliant! I went to one of those schools that made every kid take up at least 2 instruments and I can't believe, decades later, how enriching it's made my life (Hawaii state public schools in the 70s/80s provided quite an arts curriculum:).

    1. Oh, I wish California would have had that! I never had the discipline to learn to sight-read music, but I seemed to have a good ear, which has let me sneak through years of singing. Family trio - too funny! You have a great memory!

  5. Go for it!!! A dear friend of ours took up the fiddle when he retired...haven't heard him play (it's been a few years) because he does it for his own enjoyment!!! Maybe one of these days he'll play for us!!!

    (Ukulele??? Really???)

    1. For my own enjoyment would definitely be my goal. I think my family and friends would be happy with that too!

Ukulele seems to be trending at the moment! Not for me though. I'm looking for something to help me unwind. Uke strikes me as more fun than I'm looking for! :-)

  6. Mine is the ukulele. I found a you-tube of a women singing one of my favorite Tom Waites songs and that was it. Ive been looking into it for a few years now but don't know even enough about music to be able to choose the right instrument. I want to check this place out - maybe they can help. Then it's singing lessons
