Patience

I've been enjoying all the decorated fences this year.  Do you decorate your house for the holidays?

We went with the traditional colored-lights-around-the-roofline setup.  What's your favorite outdoor decorating style?  Subtle?  Full-on Clark Griswold house, from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?

I like them all - so much time and effort, and so much payoff.  Each evening, when we light the lights, it takes me right back to childhood.  I would pester my mom mercilessly, until she'd finally (finally!!!!) say it was dark enough to turn on the lights.  Oh man - the patience a child has to exercise at a moment like that!

  1. I love those white fences. They all look newly painted. Yes, lights are up at our house. Modest display that brightens up the dull days we are having.

  2. I do love seeing lights strung up around the various homes here. Unfortunately, we are too lazy to go all out, makes it all the nicer to see festive sights like this:)

  3. We left the colored lights down in Glendale and have opted for the natural decoration of tons of snow!!!

  4. For the first time in 15 years we have not put up the lights. But we have a nice tree.

    1. Well, it sounds like, together, we'd have a full deck. We went with the outside lights, and no tree.

  5. Oh, suffer the little children. My parents thought multi-colored lights were garish, so our house had the alternating greens and blues, which made everyone who stood in our path look like they were posing for an autopsy. Love the bright lights and lots of color, I'm sure your house is lovely.

  6. Don't really decorate our home for the holidays. But, perhaps in 2013 I'll give it a try. Maybe Labor Day & Presidents Day holidays for a start. Do you decorate for most holidays?

    1. Those would be good ones to start with - nothing too intense, and very little competition around the neighborhood! I don't do much besides Christmas. I always mean to, but never quite get it done.
