The Old Hotel Sierra Madre

The Hotel Sierra Madre was built in the mid-1920's, and was for both resident and tourist needs.  From the beginning, the ground floor contained professional offices and stores, with the hotel being located on the second floor.

The complex is now called the Renaissance Plaza, and the sign in front says the property is available for "commercial and residential" purposes.  The top floor continues to be residential, while the first floor houses several shops and salons.  Also on the first floor is the office of Century 21 Village Realty, which posed as a newspaper office in the episode of "Touch" that was filmed here in town last Spring.

  1. It looks like the kind of pleasant place one could happily meander into anytime. Love that it looks like an 'open air' structure, so different from the enclosed, climate-controlled ones we see here on the east coast.

    1. It is a great little place to walk through. If you look closely, you can see a statue of a dog, drinking out of a bird-bath-style water fountain in the center. He's standing on his hind legs. I took a close-up of him for a future post.

  2. I hadn't realized the upstairs was residential! Seems like it would be a nice place to live.

    1. I've known a couple of people who've lived there. I think it's kind of a long-term/short-term thing. Limited kitchens, but nice, from what I hear.

  3. I am with you, Petrea. It does look a nice place to live. And, Adele, wonderful that you could get this photo without millions of cars in the way. PS. 'Touch' is showing here. I am a fan. Second series starts soon.

    1. That luck of mine had to do with it being Sunday afternoon during a heat wave. There were only a few of us brave enough to be out there!

Have they gotten to Episode 10 of Touch yet? If they are in a mechanics, with a red car, and also the newspaper office, that's our episode. I somehow haven't seen it yet, but am taping them all, just in case!
